Providing Services for Conducting Initial Environmental Examination for the Proposed Septage Treatment Plant in Bandarawela in Badulla District.

Client : Ministry of Urban Development, Water Supply & Housing Facilities - Water Supply & Sanitation Improvement Project (WaSSIP)

The Water Supply & Sanitation Improvement Project (WaSSIP) funded by the World Bank and implemented by the Ministry of Urban Development, Water Supply & Housing facilities has been designed to increase access to safe piped water supply and improve sanitation in Districts of Ratnapura, Badulla, Kegalle, Killinochchi, Mullativu, Monaragala and Nuwara Eliya. Further, WaSSIP is also expected to establish septage treatment plants (STPs) in each of these districts in order to improve sanitation for the benefit of the people in these areas. Carry out environmental assessment for the proposed STPs at Badulla District under WaSSIP and the submit a report for each STP assessing the environmental impacts and the corresponding mitigation measures. To carry out the environmental assessment and report on the following components;

o    Alternative Sites Survey

o    Topography, Geology, Soil yype and rainfall analysis

o    Exisiting Hydrological regime and drainage patterns

o    Baseline Water quality and gorund water levels

o    Ecological Resources

o    Construction Impacts, Operational Impacts, Anticipated Social Impatcs

o    Household Survey – A 200 households in the project area to be surveyed distributing the survey forms among Grama Niladari Divisions.
