Our expertise in
geotechnical and foundation engineering supports all sectors that MHEC deals
with from buildings to water and power infrastructure, rail and highways, ports
and reclamation, and aviation. To the full range of geotechnical and foundation
needs, we offer interconnected geo-engineering skills, complemented by our
in-house expertise in the field.
Before designing and
constructing any infrastructure project, whether on brown land, green land, or
at the bottom of the sea, the ground conditions must first be assessed.
Geotechnical surveys specify the ground conditions that must be taken into
account when designing foundations, excavations, and any stabilization works
associated with these developments. It is clear that the resulting geotechnical
solutions required for soft ground will be significantly different from those
required on rocky terrain and will differ between the two extremes. Therefore
unforeseen ground conditions can have disastrous effects on both technical
suitability and the progress of projects. The Tower of Pisa has a notorious
tilt due to the poor ground on which it was built. Subsequent geotechnical
investigation and design would have highlighted this problem had it been built
now.
MHEC's
dedicated Geosciences team and Structural Soils branch has a high level of
experience providing consultancy and contracting services for a wide range of
infrastructure projects. Our skilled staff, with expertise in a wide range of
disciplines including Geology, Engineering Geology, Geotechnical, and Civil
Engineering, can provide effective ground investigations and practical
geotechnical solutions for projects of virtually any type and size.
